New Delhi: The protests over the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus in the national capital continued on Tuesday despite it being Christmas holiday. As the protesters remained undeterred by the steps taken by the administration, the Delhi Police earlier detained as many as 12 girls who defied the police and tried to break through barricades, even as the Congress core group reviewed the situation in the national capital. Following the meeting, sources said that the government was ready to speak to the protesters.
The protests on Tuesday, however, was much thinner than that on previous days after the reports of the death of a police constable, who was injured during the clashes between the protesters and the police at India Gate. Also, nine metro stations, including busy ones like Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat, remained shut for the third day in a row to stop the protesters from gathering in large numbers.
This even as the gangrape survivor continued her battle for life at the Safdarjung Hospital with doctors saying that though her condition was better than that on Monday, she was still not out of danger. According to the doctors, her blood count was normal even as her liver function was also stable.
The doctors further said that the survivor was alert and communication even as her internal bleeding had reduced remarkably. Though she continues to be on ventilator, the support of it has been reduced drastically.
Amidst these, which Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar countered the charges of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over interference with the SDM recording the statement of the survivor, Aam Aadmi Party founder Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the police was framing his party for the death of constable Tomar.

Kejriwal on Tuesday hit out at the government and the Delhi Police saying he was being framed for the death of constable Subhash Tomar during clashes at anti-rape protests at India Gate. Kejriwal said, "There is not a single proof that the government has and they are only framing these youths. Police is trying to frame me, Baba Ramdev, General VK Singh. Are they taking some revenge from us?"
He said while the guilty must be punished, if any of these eight youths are innocent and there's no proof against them, he'll stand by them. "If any of those eight including AAP worker Chaman are responsible for the death of constable, we want them to punished. But if police are framing them, they have no evidence against these eight youths, we'll stand by them," Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal said that his party workers tried to stop those inciting violence during the protests on Sunday. "Some unruly elements were present at the protests and we stopped those who created violence at India Gate. Police have failed in identifying those unruly elements at India Gate," Kejriwal said.
No questionnaire was given to SDM: Neeraj Kumar
Rejecting Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's charges of interfering in the recording of the gangrape surviver's statement by the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said, "No questionnaire was given to SDM by the police."
Leveling allegations against the SDM who recorded statement, the Police Commissioner said, "This is the third incident involving this lady SDM officer."
Neeraj Kumar said the Delhi Police will provide all aid to the family of constable Subhash Chand Tomar who died after being badly beaten up during protests against the gangrape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist.
