BANGALORE: Mountain Dew Xtreme Tour, which is a skateboarding tour celebrated internationally, concluded their Bangalore jaunt with a team of 10 professional athletes who came together from all over the world to India. The group which has travelled to 21 countries embarked on exploring India including Noida, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Lucknow. Speaking about the origin of the tour, Ruchira Jaitly, Executive Vice President- Marketing Beverges (Flavours), PepsiCo India said, “Dew tours operates in the United States and the professionals compete in Las Vegas, Saudi Arabia and now India.” She added, “As Mountain Dew is associated globally, India has been given the opportunity to witness some of the dare devils perform their breathtaking action, live in their respective cities.” The team included legendary skateboarding pros Sandro Dias from Brazil, Elliot Sloan from the US, the two brothers Eito Yasutoka and Takeshi Yasutoka from Japan; a ten times world Bicycle Moto X champion, Dennis McCoy; freestyle Moto X pros including Jimmie McGuire, Tommy Clowers, Drake Mcelroy, Myles Richmond and Nick Dunne. “I started skating 26 years ago with friends in Brazil and have been a professional for seventeen years,” said Sandro Dias, who demonstrated his skating skills with ease. “The most exciting part of the profession is the travel. I am half way across the world, visiting places and riding the same skateboard that I used to as a child,” he added. Adventure sport which is gaining popularity in our country, has seen the participation of individuals in television programmes such as in Roadies and Fear Factor, India. Eito Yasutoka, said, “We want to bring more possibilities to India and will try to do the best for the show.”Where safety of the performance was concerned, the vert ramp for the performance was manufactured in the United States. “Practice and practice. As in my case, I’d never have guessed where I am today,” advised Myles, who has been a consistent performer. Special athlete-led-consumer-workshops will also be held in Hyderabad, Kanpur, Gurgaon, Delhi and Chandigarh.
