ANGUL: “The upcoming Rs 45,000-crore Coal-to- Liquid (CTL) project of Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) at Angul is environment friendly and will cause no pollution,” said JSPL Executive Director Rajesh Jha. He added that the project would adopt the best of technologies. It will start production in 2016-17 and will include a 1100 MW captive power plant. He told mediapersons here on Tuesday that the project was first in the country and would have four million tonne annual capacity production of diesel and naphtha from coal. The project will create around 14,000 direct and 18,000 indirect jobs in the State. Jha allayed fears on the pollution hazards due to emission of carbon dioxide, sulphur and other effluents from the plants stating that there would be no emission from Coal-to- Liquid project that could affect the environment.Dispelling doubts on pollution raised in some quarters, project chief Debananda Tripathy explained in detail the project and how the diesel and naphtha would be made from coal gasification using environment-friendly technologies. Other JSPL officials S K Sharma, Amit Upadhyay and Prasanta Dehury were present.
