ALAPPUZHA: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the fall in the factional feud in the CPM is disquieting the KPCC president. He was speaking after inaugurating the CPM Alappuzha district meet at the Town Hall here on Tuesday. “The just concluded district meetings of the CPM have shown the unity in the party. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala had expressed doubts about the unity in the CPM and remarked that after the state party meet V S Achuthanandan will become a part of history. Such a remark is the outcome of the worries of the KPCC president, owing to the strengthening of the CPM,” Pinarayi said.“The CPM does not allow factional feud. The party has been gaining in strength in the 11 district committee meetings which have concluded. After the state committee meetings, the CPM will become the strongest party in the state. In the last elections, the Congress joined hands with religious parties. That led to an end to the LDF rule in the state. A section of the media and the Congress portrayed the LDF as anti-minority. Some sections of Christians also supported the UDF. At the same time, the CPM failed to attract the Muslim community,” Pinarayi said. However, a report presented at the meeting contradicted the claims of Pinarayi. The report admitted that factionalism was rampant in the area committee meetings and that factionalism led to the party’s defeat in the panchayat elections.Pinarayi said that the Congress was unfair on the Mullaperiyar dam issue. “They did not consider the words of the Prime Minister on the issue. A K Antony is the strongest minister in the Union Cabinet. But he is also trying to evade the issue. Meanwhile, Home Minister P Chidambaram took a stand to protect the interest of his state.” “The Central Government is helping corporates to plunder the wealth of the country. Numerous corruption cases were raised against the Central Government in the past few years. But the ministers and the Congress leaders are trying to protect the culprits. The defensive attitude of the party indicates that its leaders were involved in corruption. The government has not named those who had stashed away money in Swiss banks,” Pinarayi said.“Life in the country is becoming miserable owing to price rise. The public distribution system in the country has collapsed. Speculation and futures trading are the main reasons for price rise. The government has failed to control these activities,” Pinarayi said.
