An anonymous call claiming someone would sneak a bomb into the India International Trade Fair sent cops into a tizzy.

New Delhi: An anonymous phone call claiming that someone will walk into the India International Trade Fair (IITF) in Pragati Maidan with a bomb, sent police into a tizzy on Saturday.

But later, the call turned out to be a hoax.

A person, not yet identified, called up the Police Control Room just before the fair opened at 1000 hrs (IST) claiming that some people will try to sneak a bomb hidden in a gas cylinder into the Pragati Maidan and detonate it in a restaurant, police sources said.

The area was immediately cordoned off and bomb-disposal squads and dogs were immediately pushed into action.

However, after an hour-long intensive search, no suspicious objects or persons were found. Therefore, the police declared the call a hoax.

The IITF attracts thousands of visitors every day and the Pragati Maidan is cloaked in unprecedented security for this year's event in view of the October 29 serial blasts.
