New Delhi: New Zealand's controversial television anchor Paul Henry resigned on Sunday amid an uproar over racial comments. He had mocked Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit's name and made racial slurs against Indians.

Earlier, New Zealand apologised to India’s External Affairs ministry over comments made by Paul Henry about the Chief Minister of Delhi.

But the anchor Paul Henry was unfazed by India’s outrage and his own government's apology. The man himself has still not apologised to Sheila Dikshit as yet.

Henry was suspended without pay for slur against NZ Govenor General.

"I am astonished and dismayed that my comments have created a diplomatic incident. I walk the finest of lines and accept that I have inadvertently crossed it from time to time. I do not want to be the lightning rod for racial disharmony in this country," says Henry.

The Ministry of External Affairs had taken strong objection to a NZ TV host's racial slur against Sheila Dikshit. Following the offensive incident, the MEA had summoned the New Zealand envoy.
