Fearing a possible ‘unfair treatment’ towards them in the impending reorganisation of the District Congress Committees (DCC) and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in the state, the supporters of Vayalar Ravi have approached the High Command. In a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi and AICC leaders, the KPCC executive members holding allegiance to Vayalar Ravi had alleged that while forming the committees for reorganisation of the party at district- levels and for selection of candidates for the panchayat elections, only those from the two groups who had the blessing of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala were considered. A delegation of Ravi’s supporters had met Ramesh Chennithala and Oommen Chandy some weeks back ahead of the process of reorganisation and had raised the demand that all groups in the party should be considered if the reorganisation was on a factional basis.
With the outcome of the meeting not offering much promise to the Ravi supporters they have now sought the intervention of the High Command in the matter.
Ravi group leader Bharathi Puram Sasi told ‘Express’ that they had raised the demand for either electing the office-bearers on the basis of merit or by convening a meeting of the members of KPCC. If both these options were found to be unfeasible, the supporters of Vayalar Ravi and the 4th group should be considered when positions were distributed among groups. The letter, signed by Ravi supporters KPCC general secretary Ajay Tharayil, KPCC secretary Abdul Gafoor Haji and KPCC executive committee members Bharathipuram Sasi, C Mohanachandran and A Balaram, says that all organisational and official positions have been distributed on group-basis for past several years. The letter says that ignoring the Ravi supporters from the reorganisation at a time when the Ezhava and Nair communities have taken a hostile and open stand against Congress would only worsen the situation.
