BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday inaugurated the one-of-its kind exhibition of sand sculptures and photographs by globe-trotting sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik. Titled ‘Imaginations in Sand’, the exhibition will remain open for public till April 17 at the Rastriya Lalit Kala Akademi here. Going round the exhibition, Naveen said, ‘The works are all fantastic’. “It is a matter of great pride that Sudarshan who is son of the soil has carved out a niche for himself in sand art,” he said. The exhibition has more than 100 photographs of sand art that Sudarshan created all over the world. All the photographs have been categorised under nine themes such as Where Gold is Green and Blue’, ‘Sand for Social Causes’, ‘A World Beyond Borders’, ‘Saluting the Talented Souls’, ‘Power of Art’, ‘Sporting with Sand’, ‘Expressions Beyond Sand’, ‘The Art of Narration’ and ‘Celebration Called Life’. Of them 20 photographs were artistically laced with colour and sand to give them a real feel. “This exhibition is a way for me to express my gratitude towards the sand art form that has given me so much in life,” Sudarshan said. The artist has represented India in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards including the World Championship in 2008, for the country.
