CHENNAI: “Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!” said Oscar Wilde. Today, doughnut lovers from the city will look the spheres with a hole right in the eye to participate in the city’s first ever doughnut eating competition at the Donut House, Egmore. The 120 registered participants will look to break the current record with the Limca Book of Records of eating 44 donuts in 12 minutes. The participant who eats the most number of donuts within the alloted 15 minutes will be awarded with the title ‘Don of Donuts’. The contestants will be given the option of choosing from eight different varieties of egg-less donuts. This contest, however, is only a test run to see if Chennai has enough hardcore doughnut eaters to manage a record. Bhuvanesh Subarayan, CEO, Donut House says, “If it looks like someone gets close to breaking the Limca Book’s numbers, we will get officials from the Book and have another contest.”
