Chennai hit-and-run: NEPC honcho's son surrenders
Achal Khemka allegedly ran his Mercedes over 11 people.

Chennai: A city-based businessman's teenaged son, who is wanted by police in connection with a hit-and-run incident which killed three persons, surrendered before the Juvenile Justice Court on Wednesday.

After his surrender, lawyers of Achal Khemka, son of NEPC Chairman Rajkumar Khemka, applied for bail which was opposed by Chennai police.

The police claimed they had 'clinching evidence' that Khemka was behind the wheels of a Mercedes Benz that ran over 11 persons sleeping on a footpath on December 13, killing two of them and injuring the rest.

The speeding car collided head on with a two-wheeler near Poonamallee High Road and crashed into a platform, where nearly 50 construction labourers were sleeping. Three labourers were killed, and police sources now say they've found evidence linking Achal to the crime.
