PATHANAMTHITTA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the Central Government would soon give clearance for the Kochi Metro Rail.Addressing newsmen here on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the project proposal on the Kochi Metro Rail was sent to the Union Finance Ministry by the Urban Development Department for approval.The Central Government would sanction an IIT for the state during the 12th Five-Year Plan.The Chief Minister said that the Railway Ministry’s response was positive to the State Government’s request for the High Speed Rail Corridor linking Thiruvananthapuram with Kasargod. The foundation-stone for the proposed Palakkad coach factory would also be laid soon, he said.On Mullaperiyar dam issue, the Chief Minister said that the negative attitude of the Tamil Nadu Government affected even holding discussions to sort out the issue. The Chief Minister said that the clearance for the Aranmula airport project was given by the previous LDF Government.It is a declared policy of the UDF Government that it would not withdraw or scrap the project approved by the previous LDF Government, he said.
