New Delhi: The Ruchika Girhotra case was formally handed over to the CBI on Monday.

One case is under Section 306 against former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore while others are for criminal conspiracy and also destruction of evidence. A charge of attempt to murder against Rathore and the then Haryana Police team will also be investigated.

CBI will also probe the role of KP Singh, the then SP of Panchkula.

The agency has re-registered the cases against Rathore.

"We have re-registered three cases relating to Ruchika Girhotra today (Monday) after the Central Government gave its consent under section 5 of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act (DSPE) on the request from Haryana government," a CBI spokesman said. The cases were re-registered in Special Crime Zone of the agency in the Capital.

Meanwhile, Rathore moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking bail in two cases registered against him. The court will hear the bail plea on Tuesday.

Ruchika, a 14-year-old budding tennis player, was molested by Rathore in 1990 who had allegedly brought pressure on her school to expel her.

Rathore was on December 21, 2009 convicted of molesting Ruchika 19 years back and sentenced to six months' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000.
