The Gujarat forest department has been able to recover dead bodies of nine lions from the flood affected districts of Amreli and Bhavnagar so far.

Gujarat: Heavy rains, which caused a flood like situation in Gujarat have claimed the lives of nine Asiatic lions in Gujarat.

"Search and rescue operations will continue and special teams will continue searching for wild animals that need to be rescued," said Dr S C Pant, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife)

The carcasses of 16 spotted deer, four black bucks and more than 1400 blue bulls have also been recovered by forest department teams so far. There is some positive news as trackers have located 38 lions who have survived last week's floods.
