Bumper Cabbage Crop Brings No Cheer

PHULBANI: Cabbage for 40 paise a kg is definitely a steal. And it is true for Daringbadi block in Kandhmal district. Despite a bumper crop, the farmers are feeling the heat with finances going awry. Following crop damage due to untimely rains, the farmers of Sangadamaha, Kilabadi, Dangamala, Danekbadi, Desikeda and Greenbadi villages had taken loans to raise cabbage again in over 150 acres. Non-availability of proper market facilities has proved a bane even as they are not able to market the produce outside the district due to poor communication services. While cabbages are being sold at throwaway prices in the market, nearly 300 truckloads are still lying in the fields.
