MARADU: Excise and Ports Minister K Babu on Friday said that the tender procedures to set up a modern waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram will be completed at the earliest. “The government will ensure that the plant at Brahmapuram will not create any environmental issues,” he said while inaugurating ‘Mazhayathum Munpe’, a pre-monsoon health care drive of the corporation. He said that only a small area would be needed from more than 100 acres of land at Brahmapuram for setting up the modern waste treatment plant. The other areas will be utilised for setting up an industrial unit. The proposal has already been included in this year’s budget, he said. “The biggest factor in setting up a solid waste treatment plant is winning the trust of the people. The move to set up the industrial unit will also help in clearing the apprehensions of the people in the area,” he said.
