New Delhi: The much-awaited Cauvery Water dispute verdict has set off a chain of panicky reactions in Karnataka with IT companies instructing their employees to go home as soon as possible.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has also convened an all-party meeting to discuss the verdict and told reporters he would react only after the meeting.

"It would not be appropriate to comment without seeing the full contents of the award," Kumaraswamy told journalists.

He said the state's next step would be decided after consulting leaders of all parties and irrigation experts and that ample security arrangements has been made to maintain law and order situation.

He also appealed the farmers to maintain peace and calm and not react to the verdict before the exact consequences were known.

Police have been on high alert in Capital Bangalore and the neighbouring Mysore and Mandya districts.

Several schools also announced closure as a precautionary measure to transport authorities and private buses were withdrawn from roads in Bangalore.

Tamil farmers satisfied

In Tamil Nadu, working president of the farmers’ association, Mahadanapuram Rajaraman, said the farmers were satisfied with the award as the allocation was at the expected level.

"What we want now is the implementation mechanism, besides adequate barrages and reservoirs in the state to avoid water being wasted into the sea", he was quoted by PTI as saying.
