Patna: Police in Bihar are on the lookout for the sons of senior BJP leader Awadhesh Narayan Singh in connection with a sexual harassment complaint filed against the duo by a Mumbai-based air hostess.
In her complaint filed at the Gandhi Maidan Women’s police station, the woman alleged that the accused, Prashan Ranjan and Sushant Ranjan, invited her to their father’s residence on May 16 and tried to molest her.
Patna City Superintendent of Police D Amarkesh told News18 that a team, led by Secretariat area DSP, has been formed to nab the accused.
“Initially, we went looking for them at their residence, but found no trace of them. They are absconding now. We are constantly trying to track their movement,” Amarkesh said.
The city SP said the woman did not file the complaint in her person, but sent it through one of her acquaintances. After speaking to her, the police turned the complaint into an FIR.
“We have also requested the victim to come to Patna and help us in our investigation. She has not confirmed yet,” Amarkesh said.
According to her complaint, the air hostess came into contact with the duo through a common friend, adding that the brothers had invited her to their father’s official residence in Patna on previous occasions as well.
“On May16, Sushant insisted that I come over. When I went there, his brother Prashant also turned up. Prashant had requested me not to talk to his brother, but I thought it was the fallout of some differences between them. On that day, both tried to molest me and when resisted they threatened to kill. I anyhow managed to rescue myself (sic),” she said in the complaint.
Defending his sons, Awadhesh Naryan Singh, former chairman of Bihar legislative council, said, “One of my sons studied with her in school. She might be framing them at the behest of someone else.”
