ROURKELA: With the panchayat polls coming to an end on Sunday, the BJD has reportedly put up a good show by winning at least three of the  six ZP constituencies. Sources said the BJD won  from Lefripara (A) and Hemgir (A) ZP seats, while the Congress emerged victorious from the Lefripara (B) and Hemgir (B). In the Maoist-hit Gurundia block, the BJD was comfortably ahead at the Gurundia (B), while the JMM was leading in Gurundia (A).   Even though counting was done immediately after each phase of elections, the results would be officially declared on February 22. Sources said the BJD appeared to secure between 16 and 19 seats in the 35-member Sundargarh ZP Council. Sources said the Congress would secure not more than eight,  seven seats less than in 2007. While the BJP is yet to open its account, the remaining seats were bagged by Independents.Sonepur: With 11 of the 13 ZP seats already in its kitty, the BJD ended its tally with 12 ZP seats while the Congress managed to win just one seat in the last phase of the poll on Sunday. BJD candidate Uttar Kumar Patra emerged victorious in Birmaharajpur zone II while Rajgopal Panigrahi of Congress clinched the Birmaharajpur zone I.  The post of ZP president is reserved for OBCs and two candidates - Himanshu Sekhar Biswal who won from Dungripali zone II and Dwarika Sahu from Binka zone II - are in the race for the top post.Nuapada: The final phase saw BJD candidates winning in nine out of 14 ZP seats while the BJP won in five seats. The Congress drew a blank in the district.  In the polls held on Sunday for two ZP seats, while BJD candidate Lambodhar Nial won from Nuapada zone 11 in Boden block,  Bijay Sekhar Yadav of BJP won from zone 6 in Khariar block of the district. The post of ZP president is reserved for SC (woman) and Pushpanjali Pandey is the lone contender. She hails from village Chata in Bhuliasikwan gram panchayat in Khariar block.Balangir: BJD won in as many as 26 ZP seats of the 34-member Balangir ZP while BJP won five. Congress won just three seats.In the poll held in Balangir zones 5 and 6 in Gudbhela block, zones 12 and 13 in Deogaon block, zones 20 and 21 in Balangir Sadar block, all the seats were wrested by BJD. In zone 12 under Deogaon block, Rina Meher of the Congress emerged victorious.Bargarh: In a major setback to the Congress which has three MLAs from the district, it was a landslide for the BJD which won 31 out of the 34 ZP seats.    The Congress could manage to win from three seats with Sushama Pradhan winning from zone 5 in Ambabhona block, Manini Bhoi from zone 21 and Binodini Dharua from zone 23, both the zones under Bijepur block.
