Bibliophiles paradise in Bangalore

BANGALORE: It claims to be the largest international book festival in the country with millions of books to choose from, and books worth more than Rs 10 crore. Bangalore University along with Indya Comics will be organising a book fair, ‘World of Books-2011’  between  September 2 and 11.“This book fair is to promote reading habits and it aims at reaching out to the common man,” said N Prabhu Dev, Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University. He also said that the university is proud to provide a common platform for publishers, institutions, students and bibliophiles.Around 300 publishers will be participating and books under numerous categories and languages will be showcased at the event.Bangalore University will be selecting books worth Rs 5 crore. More than 700 affiliated educational institutions of Bangalore University, Department of Public Libraries, University of Agricultural Sciences, Rajiv Gandhi Health University, department of public  libraries, government of Karnataka and others will be taking part. Raja Ram Mohan Roy library foundation, Kolkata will also be supporting this activity.The fair will be spread across 1 lakh sqft with over 300 stalls, and will also have day long vocational, academic, and cultural activities  and book launches in the span of ten days.P V Konnur, university librarian, Bangalore University said, “This book fair will be much better than any other international book fair that has taken place in the country. For the first time there has been a cognisance between libraries and book trade, and I assure you this festival will cater to all book lovers.”Also, The World of Book will be celebrating Teacher’s Day on September 5. More than 2,000 teachers will be uniting at Vidhana Soudha  and will be showing their solidarity by walking from Vidhana Soudha to the event venue, to show their support for inculcating and developing reading habits. Teachers will also be felicitated at the World of Books-2011 event.World of Books 2011 will be held from September 2 to 11 at the Tripura Vasini, Palace Grounds.
