THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kodunganoor, emerged winner in the Col N J Nair Memorial All-Kerala Inter-School Quiz Contest held at the Sainik School, Kazhakkoottam. Twenty-five schools from different parts of the state took part in the event. Christ Nagar School, Thiruvallom, won the second position. The winner was awarded a rolling trophy, merit certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. The runners-up team was awarded merit certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000. St Thomas Central School, Mukkolakkal, which stood third, was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 and merit certificates. Sainik School Principal Gp Capt B Janardhanan was the chief guest and he gave away the trophies and cash awards to the winners. Headmaster Commander Jason Paul introduced the chief guest to the audience and welcomed the gathering. P Vijayakumar, a retired professor from Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram, conducted the quiz. Additional DPI P K Krishnan also attended the function. The event was conducted as part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations of the school.The trophy was instituted by the school in order to perpetuate the memories of Col N J Nair, an alumnus of the school who laid down his life for the nation while fighting insurgents in Nagaland in 1993.
