BANGALORE: The Legislative Council was informed on Monday that 10,156 persons, including IT and BT professionals, have committed suicide in the last six years in Bangalore.Replying to a question raised by Congress member Khaji Arshad Ali, Home and Transport minister R Ashok said, among them 4,384 were women. A majority of them committed suicide by hanging , four people took the extreme step by shooting themselves, the minister said adding that they ended lives mainly due to personal reasons. “No specific reasons were found for the suicidal deaths of the IT and BT professionals,” he said.Replying to another question by Congress member Allam Prabhu Patil, Ashok informed the house that as many as 18,343 women were missing in the State from 2008 to 2011 and over 8,564 of them have been traced so far.The State government has taken all measures to trace the remaining women who are missing, he noted.The two members refused to seek answer from the minister who is facing corruption charges from the Lokayukta court as the Opposition Congress and the JD(S) have taken a decision in this regard. However, the house witnessed the violation of this understanding, when the JD(S) member Abdul Azeem sought answer from the home minister on the inconvenience caused to the general public following the presence of several marriage halls located inside the Palace Grounds. The minister promised the house to take suitable actions.
