New Delhi: Mohun Bagan face Malaysian club Pahang in their second leg of the AFC Cup Championship at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday but the Indian club are without some of their best players for the tie.
Bagan had defeated Pahang 2-1 in Malaysia in the first leg but are now without striker Baichung Bhutia and Mehtab Hussain who have been shown two yellow cards in the last two matches.
Sanjiv Maria is down with an injury and Mehrajuddin's name has not been registered for the match against Pahang.
Bagan coach Bernerd also admitted that with inter-club transfer starting soon, most of the players lacked motivation to do well and are scared of injury.
"But at the same time this will provide an opportunity for the reserve bench players to prove their mettle," he was quoted as saying by the PTI.
Pahang Manager J Abedin said he is expecting his young team to put up a better performance this time.
"We started well but lagged behind because of injury," Abedin said about the first leg tie.
"But this time my team comprises youngsters brimming with energy and five of them have already turned up for the country. I am confident they will dish out a fine performance," he said.
Bagan are second in the Group after Campines Rovers of Singapore and are followed by Pahang.
