Allahabad High Court on Monday fixed June 11 as the next date of hearing on a PIL seeking direction for a CBI probe into the gangrape and murder case of two Dalit girls in Badaun as Uttar Pradesh government submitted the copy of a notification recommending such an inquiry.
The court's vacation bench in Lucknow comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Rajan Roy fixed the date for the hearing on the PIL filed by NGO 'We the People' through its general secretary Prince Lenin. On the earlier directive of the court, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday submitted the copy of the notification recommending CBI probe into the incident through Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal.
In its petition, the NGO, which on Monday submitted the copies of the FIR and postmortem reports, has sought direction for a CBI probe into the incident as well as action against the accused police officers, besides providing adequate security to the family members of the victims.
Bodies of the two cousins, aged 14 and 15 years, were found hanging with a tree in Katra Sadatganj village last month, triggering nationwide outrage. A case was lodged against seven persons, including two policemen, in this regard of which five had been arrested.
