Assam government to construct 6 lakh household toilets
The government will ensure the availability of sanitation facilities to all people and 300 Gaon Panchayats will be covered during the financial year under Solid Liquid Waste Management scheme.

Guwahati: In a bid to ensure sanitation facilities for all, Assam government will construct six lakh household toilets and has earmarked Rs 860 crore to make the state open defecation free.

In addition, the government will provide Rs 500 to each household who build toilets under the ongoing programme as incentive money, a government release said here today.

The government will ensure the availability of sanitation facilities to all people and 300 Gaon Panchayats will be covered during the financial year under Solid Liquid Waste Management scheme.

Construction of 270 community sanitation complexes and repair of public toilets in government offices will also be taken up, the release said adding development of 123 old toilet blocks at 29 bus stations will also be carried out.

Altogether 23 lakh families in the rural areas have already been provided with household toilets during the last 14 years, the release added.
