New Delhi: The voter has spoken and in Punjab, where over 76 per cent of the 16.6 million voters are deciding the fate of 1,050 candidates, the voter has spoken in favour of the SAD-BJP alliance.
The fate of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu of BJP who was fighting the elections from the Amritsar Lok Sabha by-election will be decided on Tuesday.
Buoyed by the early lead, Sidhu was quoted by news agency UNI as saying that the people of Punjab have shown the door to ''arrogant ruler'' Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
''The people have smashed the arrogance of the arrogant king,'' said Sidhu was further quoted as saying.
The voting percentage in Punjab this time was an all-time record. Most results are expected to be out by Tuesday afternoon.
The Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP alliance is set to form the new government in Punjab where it is leading in 67 seats.
The SAD-BJP is leading in 68 seats and the Congress in 34 in Punjab, which has a 117-member Assembly.
