HYDERABAD: With Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan going on a five-week training programme at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA), the state government on Saturday appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Sharma as the in-charge police commissioner of Hyderabad.Presently posted as Additional DGP, Greyhounds, Anurag Sharma, a 1982 batch IPS officer, will be the in-charge Commissioner till Khan returns. As part of the training programme Khan will also be visiting London for a week after the four-week training at the NPA.Though there were speculations that Khan may be shifted as he would be away for five weeks, the government, sources said, was in no mood to shift Khan immediately and therefore, allowed him to go ahead with the training programme, without shifting him.Though Anurag Sharma will be incharge commissioner, he may not take decisions pertaining to important matters of the city police and will wait for Khan to return, which would mean that several key matters would be put on hold.Besides Khan, four more IPS officers including the Special Protection Group (SPG) chief K Durgaprasad, would also be going for the mid-career training programme.The others who are attending the training programme include S Gopal Reddy (Additional DGP, Technical Services), M Malakondaiah (Chairman, State-level Police Recruitment Board), RP Thakur (DG, Drug Control Administration) and Ray Vinay Ranjan (Additional DGP, Legal).While additional DGP, provisions and logistics, T Krishna Prasad has been given additional charge of technical services, Tejdeep Kaur Menon has been given additional charge of SLPRB.
