Andhra Pradesh government to soon sign deal with NTPC for 1000-mw solar unit
Andhra Pradesh Information & Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said, the Government is also working on establishing another 1500 MW solar power projects in Kadapa and Kurnool districts.

New Delhi: In a bid to make Andhra Pradesh power surplus, the state government is shortly entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NTPC for setting up a mega solar power unit with a capacity of 1,000 MW at Ananthapur.

Andhra Pradesh Information & Public Relations Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said, the Government is also working on establishing another 1500 MW solar power projects in Kadapa and Kurnool districts. "NTPC has already decided to start a Ultra Mega Solar Power unit with a capacity of 1000 MW. Similarly, we want to have another mega project in Kurnool with a capacity of 1000 MW and 500 MW in Kadapa. With this, the State would become (power) surplus," he added.

Noting that the TDP Government was able to tied over the power deficiency through various sources, Reddy said that the State has set a target of producing 19,000 MW of electricity in the next five years.

He also added the state government would commence the supply of 24x7 electricity for all domestic, commercial and industrial users from October. "We have already achieved zero power deficit. Now, we would start commence the supply of 24x7 electricity from October. The power supply for agriculture sector will be increased from seven hours to nine hours," Reddy stated.
