KOCHI: Once again, the district administration is all set to tread the same path which it had taken four years ago, regarding the demolition of illegal structures on MG Road. District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said the department would move ahead with the process once the legal procedures are over. Survey and field measurement of the area have been completed, he said. However, Pareeth said that a report regarding the land that has to be reclaimed is yet to be submitted to the government. He said everything would be cleared in two weeks’ time. “Once we get the clearance, the administration will evict the encroachments with the same vigour as was done in 2007,” he said. Apart from reclaiming the encroached land, the administration would also acquire additional 17 cents on the stretch, Pareeth said. “Once the whole process is completed, the width of the MG Road would become 22.5 metres,” he said. Asked about the major encroachments by some of the leading shop owners, the District Collector said the shop owners were ready to give the land to the government. Moreover, Pareeth said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation would be dealing with the widening of the stretch between Madhava Pharmacy Junction and Jose Junction. “All the major procedures have been completed for land acquisition,” he said.
