Akali Dal and BJP resolved to go to people of Punjab with an agenda to rid the state of the "corrupt" Congress regime.

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bhartiya Janata Party on Friday resolved to go to the people of Punjab under the leadership of Parkash Singh Badal with a common agenda in the forthcoming Assembly elections to rid the state of "the corrupt, inefficient, autocratic and anti-people Congress regime headed by Amarinder Singh."

In it’s a heated first meeting at the residence of the former Finance Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh, the two parties re-dedicated themselves to an era of "peace and Punjabi unity."

They said that a government formed by the alliance would work for "development with a human face" in Punjab, ending the present government's policy of forced acquisitions to help the rich and the mighty, a party spokesman said.

Those who attended the meeting included SAD General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and BJP leaders including General Secretary Harjeet Singh Grewal and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Grewal said that the two parties also decided to hold joint rallies in all the 117 Assembly constituencies in the state in the run upto the general election due early next year.

The Common Agenda will take into account the views of representatives of different sections of society who have been reeling under the repressive and dictatorial regime and facing the wrath of its police for raising genuine grievances of the people.
