New Delhi: Bharti Airtel's cross operator music application Wynk has crossed one lakh downloads in 4 days with more than 50 per cent of consumers are from other telecom players.
"Wynk Music crossed its first milestone witnessing 1 lakh downloads in just 4 days of its launch. Wynk is now #1 in the category of new free apps for music and among the top 5 apps overall in the Google Play store," Airtel said in a statement.
Music industry experts, however, said that upward of 50 per cent downloads were from non-Airtel customers.
Airtel had launched Wynk on September 2, becoming the first operator to an introduce an over-the-top (OTT) mobile application in the domestic market.
With the product, Airtel is tapping on customers from other mobile players.
"With Wynk we wanted to bring to music lovers a superior product that offers a complete bouquet across genres. We are absolutely thrilled by the response we have received within this short span," Bharti Airtel Director (Consumer Business) Srinivasan Gopalan said.
Airtel has said that in order to drive data consumption, it plans to come out with more such applications in future. The company is targetting six categories including social networks, video, music, gaming, e-commerce and travel, where it would look to develop its own products.
