THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aecom, the global consultants for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) bids for the multi-crore Vizhinjam seaport project, will arrive here soon to inspect the proposed port site.The inspection is crucial for floating the global tenders for the EPC bids, Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL) CEO Suresh Babu said.Earlier this week, Leighton Holdings Pvt Ltd, the Australian partner in the Welspun-Leighton consortium, received the clearance of the External Affairs Ministry, Ports Minister K Babu said in a statement.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy received an intimation from External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in this regard. The financial bids for determining the port operator will be opened once the two bidders are cleared by the Home Ministry.And earlier, Mundra Port and SEZ and the Welspun consortium had been cleared by the Defence Ministry to bid for the post of port operator.At present, L&T Ramboll and Asian Consulting Engineers are conducting the Environment Impact Study (EIA) for the multi-crore project. The previous LDF Government had decided to implement the project on ‘Landlord Model’ where the port infrastructure will be owned by the state itself.
