BANGALORE: A team of doctors from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research performed balloon mitral valvuloplasty procedure with live transmission for complex cardiovascular therapeutic at an international conference held at Orlando, USA.“The patient was suffering from Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis. The patient has undergone first operation (surgical valvotomy) 12 years ago, which has narrowed to a critical extent with a bad anatomy. Elsewhere, she was advised to undergo open heart surgery for valve replacement,” said Dr CN Manjunath, professor and head of the department, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.However, this difficult case was taken for balloon valvuloplasty procedure and good result was achieved.She will be discharged within two days.According to Dr Manjunath, all procedural details were discussed live with conference panelists and USA cardiologist at Orlando-Florida, USA. The transmission lasted for 40 minutes. “Our Centre was chosen since we perform world’s highest number of Mitral Valvuloplasty procedures with high level of competence and expertise.This will also boost medical tourism for both learning and treatment aspects,” he added.
