CHENNAI: If the Express Teenage Premier League, sponsored by The New Indian Express, was a grand success, it was not only because the tournament was organised well and witnessed exciting fare from enthusiastic youngsters across 32 teams. This event is not only about playing and winning but also an occasion to bond with friends, get a feel of what competition is all about, and display one’s talent.Played in a format that saw 12-over league matches, 15-over semifinals and a T20 affair in the final, the tournament — organised by three friends: Apurv Dugar, Sahil Khatri and Anand Shankar — provides teenagers an opportunity to play the game they love in an injury-free, fun-filled atmosphere.Former Indian cricketer WV Raman, chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, was moved by the enthusiasm of the participants.“At a time when many children do not take up any sport, it is nice to see so many youngsters playing in the hot sun. Youngsters must take up sport as it makes them athletic. The Express Teenage Premier League is a good initiative. Playing is all about enjoyment and not necessarily just winning,” says Raman.Ajay Srinivas of Game Changers, who has played in all three editions of the event, says the event has given him a lot of joy and the avenue to make friends.“The event has giv en me the opportunity to develop competitive skills in an enjoyable environment,” he says. Which is why, he, like many others, will return for more.
