ALAPPUZHA: Six youths, including a bus conductor, died in two separate accidents, here on Tuesday. Prasad, 36, Paikannad House, Manappuram Poochakkal, a conductor attached with the Cherthala depot of the KSRTC, died after hitting his head on road.The incident took place on the National Highway, close to Valavanad Temple, near Cherthala. The bus was going to Harippad from Cherthala, while the bike riders were coming towards Cherthala.Both the bus and the bike were overtaking the vehicles in front of them, onlookers said. The conductor was thrown out of the bus when it swerved, trying to save the bike riders. The bike riders were, Sravan S Ram, 18, Thattamtheri, Kalavamkodam, Cherthala, Anil Lal, 20, Pokkalathu, Komalapuram, Alappuzha, and Midhun Thampi, 18, Valanjavely, Palluruthy. Midhun and Sravan died on the spot. Arun Lal succumbed to his injuries at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital, police said.Two bike riders died in another accident at Changanassery Junction, near SD College. Piush, 28, son of Mathews, Piush Bhavan, R Block, Kainakari, and Monu, 19,son of Thomas Vadekkaparambil, Thiruvanvandoor, Chengannur, died when the bike in which they were travelling lost control while negotiating a hump, and hit an electric post.The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday. Both died on the spot, traffic police said. After postmortem, the bodies of the youths were handed over to the relatives, said Traffic SI Jolly Joseph.
