50-year-old woman raped by neighbour

HYDERABAD:  In a bizarre incident, a 50-year-old woman was assaulted and allegedly raped by her 25-year-old neighbour Sriram near Manchal on the city outskirts in the early hours of Friday. The accused was reportedly in an inebriated condition and took advantage of the woman staying alone in the house and committed the crime, police said.The incident took place at Chennareddyguda under Manchal police station limits. The victim stays along with her son, Sitaram and his wife, in a single room tenement. Sitaram and his wife were away to attend a function in Mahabubnagar and the victim was alone in the house.Manchal police inspector Manta Gangadhar said that around 1 a.m on Friday, Sriram forced his way into the house by forcibly pushing the door and pounced on the victim.As the victim raised an alarm, Sriram punched on her face and threatened her of dire consequences. He later sexually assaulted her and fled from there. Locals found the victim in an unconscious state with bleeding injuries. She lost one of her teeth in the attack.Manchal police registered cases under Sections 376 (rape), 448 (house-trespass) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) against Sriram and was reportedly taken into custody. Police suspect Sriram committed the crime in a drunken condition.
