In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, there are 56 characters available to play as, 37 characters that are available from the start, seven downloadable characters, and 12 characters that have to be unlocked. You can get the unlockable characters through two methods - by playing Smash matches, or by meeting certain unlock conditions. You'll learn how to unlock all of the characters through both methods in this article.

Steps

Unlock Ness by beating Classic mode on any intensity. You can also unlock him by playing 10 matches.

Unlock Falco by beating beating Classic mode on any intensity without using continues. You can also unlock him by playing 20 matches.

Unlock Wario by completing 100-Man Smash with any character. You can also unlock him by playing 30 matches.

Unlock Lucina by beating Classic mode on any intensity without using continues with Marth. You can also unlock her by playing 40 matches.

Unlock Dark Pit by beating Classic mode with any three characters on any intensity. You can also unlock him by playing 50 matches.

Unlock Dr. Mario by completing Classic mode with Mario on an intensity of at least 4.0 or higher. You can also unlock him by playing 60 matches.

Unlock R.O.B. by collecting at least 200 trophies, then playing a Smash match or beating Classic with any character on any intensity. You can also unlock him by playing 70 matches.
