Following Daniel Craig’s departure from the James Bond franchise, speculation over the next 007 is all over the internet. Amidst the buzz, Henry Cavill is gearing up for a 2024 comeback on the big screen as agent Argylle in Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller of the same name. Cavill, known for his standout performances As Superman in DCEU and The Witcher series, has been a top contender for the James Bond role. Although Cavill was previously in talks for the part in 2005 but he lost the opportunity to Daniel. Meanwhile, addressing the ongoing speculation in an interview with Total Film, Cavill discusses whether his role in Argylle will impact his chances at 007. While Cavill remains tight lipped about the casting, he claimed that the final decision will be made by producers.
Cavill said, “It’s a fun character. Whether I’m ruled out of Bond because of this or not is up to Barbara Broccoli and Mr Wilson.” Further, talking about his unique hairstyle in the upcoming film, Cavill shared, “Matthew came up with it and said, ‘Look, trust me, I can make it look good.’ You know what? You don’t just wake up and have a flattop. It takes work. I don’t know if I have the time or the patience for that kind of carry-on when it comes to my hair, in real life.”
In 2019, Henry Cavill spoke about his past meeting with Casino Royale’s director, which according to him didn’t go as expected. In a conversation with Cinema Blend, the actor claimed, “I probably could have prepared better.” Cavill recounted Martin Campbell, the director, commenting on his appearance, stating, “Looking a little chubby there, Henry.” This feedback prompted Cavill to acknowledge his lack of knowledge about training and diet. Despite feeling uncomfortable, he appreciated Campbell’s honesty and his criticism helped him to improve.
During an interview with Den of Geek, director Matthew Vaughn admired Henry Cavill and called him as 007 and a half. Vaughn claimed, “He would make a brilliant Bond, really would.” Reflecting on Cavill’s past screen test for Bond in 2005, Vaughn believed that Cavill’s age might have stalled his chances at that time, if Cavill was older, he might have secured the role.
Apart from Henry Cavill, Argylle also features Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel Jackson, John Cena, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella and Bryan Cranston.
