The Idea of You starring actress Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, has taken Tinseltown by storm with its extraordinary debut. Released on March 16, the romantic comedy has achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, signalling widespread acclaim. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film had generated immense buzz days before its release as its trailer became the most viewed for an OTT (over-the-top) film across various social media platforms, amassing a staggering 125 million views in one week, as reported by WaveMetrix. One of the key highlights of The Idea of You is the fresh and exciting pairing of its lead actors, Hathaway and Galitzine.
Written by Jennifer Westfeldt, the film is an adaptation of Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, known for its engaging storyline centred around Harry Styles fan fiction.

In its film adaptation, Galitzine portrays Hayes Campbell, a 24-year-old singer and the lead of the boy band August Moon, who has a chance encounter with Hathaway’s character, Solène, a 40-year-old single mother, at one of his concerts. Their unexpected connection sets off an unexpected and passionate romance that quickly captures the attention of audiences worldwide.
In addition to Hathaway and Galitzine, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Raymond Cham Jr., Viktor White, Jaiden Anthony, and Dakota Adan.

The film’s premiere at the prestigious SXSW (South by Southwest) Film, Music, and Media Festival in Austin, Texas, on March 16, 2024, was also a resounding success, drawing praise and applause from the audience.
During a heartfelt post-screening Q&A session at Austin’s Paramount Theater, Hathaway expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response to the film. “I love you so much. You have no idea the gift that you’ve just given us with your responsiveness, by being so connected to every little nuance in this. I will never forget this screening," Hathaway said, visibly moved by the audience’s reaction, reports Variety.
Reflecting on the film’s themes, Hathaway shared her perspective on coming-of-age stories, saying, “For some reason, we talk about coming-of-age stories as being something that happens to you in the earliest part of your life, and I don’t know about you, but I feel like I keep blooming." She also expressed her excitement and gratitude for being offered the role.
The Idea of You is scheduled for release on Amazon Prime Video on May 2.
