Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has dropped a bombshell comment on a recent Instagram post of Jesse Lingard. The English forward has stayed out of football since parting ways with Nottingham Forest in June last year. However, he seems to be gearing up to make a roaring comeback when a desired opportunity arrives. Lingard shared some sneak peeks into his preparation on Instagram. In a few photographs attached to the post, the footballer was seen sweating it out during a gym session.
While it might be a hint towards his return, Scholes took it as an opportunity to remind Lingard of his fading football career. The footballer-turned-pundit wrote in the comment section, “Are you gonna f*** about in the gym or are you gonna actually play football?”
The remark no doubt came as a shock for fans while some of them found it quite rude. Though Scholes later deleted the controversial comment, a screenshot of it widely surfaced across the internet and became viral in no time.
Graduated from Old Trafford’s youth academy, Lingard made his debut for the Manchester United senior team in 2014 following some loan spells with Leicester City, Birmingham City and Brighton. He has spent the majority of his professional career with the childhood club but could never be able to cement his place in the starting lineup.
His best performance came in 2021 when Lingard joined West Ham United on loan. He scored 9 goals and recorded 5 assists for the Hammers before returning to Manchester United after five months. Lingard finally ended his tie with the Red Devils in July 2022, signing a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest.
Lingard has received several offers from different parts of the world in recent times. But none of them materialised as the footballer is adamant to continue his career in Europe. According to a report by Sport, Lingard has offered his services to La Liga champions Barcelona. He was also rumoured to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. Before the start of the season, Lingard underwent some training sessions with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq and his former club West Ham United.
