Lionel Messi Left Furious With Argentina Teammate Over Comments On Wife Antonela: Report

Lionel Messi was reportedly left furious after a distasteful comment was made about his wife Antonela Roccuzzo.

As per media reports, the incident transpired during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar where Argentina ended their long wait to engrave their name on the coveted trophy.

The man in question is Alejandro “Papu” Gomez, a 35-year-old midfielder, who featured in only two matches in the tournament. The news recently resurfaced after a panelist on Tartu TV spilled the beans during a programme ‘A La Tarde’.

Though the person was not sure about the exact date of the incident, he said that it transpired inside the Argentina dressing room.

According to the panelist, the controversial event perhaps occurred on the back of Argentina’s nervy win over the Netherlands in the quarter-final of the Qatar World Cup.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw following 120 minutes of action-packed football. Argentina ultimately had the last laugh in the contest, registering a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.

After confirming their berth in the semi-finals, all the Argentine footballers, including Messi, were emphatically celebrating the victory inside the locker room. That is when Papu Gomez made a disrespectful remark about Antonela.

It certainly did not go down well with Messi, who did nothing but reportedly glared at his teammate with an irritated face.

“I don’t know exactly in which match, if it was in the match against the Netherlands. Everyone was happy because they passed. Everyone in the locker room started to sing. What dis Alejandro El Papu say? ‘Hand over Antonela!’ Imagine Messi’s laser eyes. It was an immediate red card,” the panellist said.

Earlier in November, a wild rumour surfaced involving the relationship between Messi and his 36-year-old wife Antonela.

Terming it as the “biggest crisis” of their marriage, a Brazilian newspaper claimed that Messi had a secret relationship with an Argentine journalist.

Neither Messi nor Argentina made any comment about the rumour but it was Daniella Semaan, wife of Cesc Fabregas, who came forward in support of the couple.

In a social media post, Semaan lashed out at the Brazilian outlet, saying, “What publication is this that has no meaning and has nothing right.”

Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo have known each other since their childhood. They had been in a relationship for a prolonged period before exchanging vows in 2017.
