Liverpool: Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard will miss Saturday's game against Swansea City and the England friendlies against Spain and Sweden, the Premier League club said on their website on Tuesday.
Gerrard will be sidelined for at least a fortnight with an ankle infection.
The 31-year-old Gerrard, who only returned to the Liverpool starting line-up two weeks ago after six months out with a groin injury, has undergone treatment on his infected right ankle.
England host Spain on November 12 and Sweden on November 15.
The midfielder sustained the infection following a knock in training before Liverpool's Premier League match against West Brom last Saturday, and has not featured for Kenny Dalglish's side since their draw with Manchester United on October 22.
This latest setback is also likely to threaten the 31-year-old’s chances of securing a regular place in Fabio Capello's midfield ahead of Euro 2012 next year, after his initial injury in March has meant his last appearance for England was in November 2010.
A club statement released by Liverpool read: "Steven Gerrard has now undergone treatment to clear out all infection from his right ankle, which has been placed in a protective plaster cast."
"The player will not be available for this weekend's game against Swansea City or for the upcoming England friendlies against Spain and Sweden."
"Steven will now continue his rehabilitation programme under the guidance of the club's medical staff."
