Lakshmi Manchu: I’m Standing Here Because I Had a Better Opportunity to Go to a Good School
In conversation with News18, Lakshmi Manchu shares her vision for Teach For Change, celebrating fashion with philanthropy and having 35 celebrities walking the fashion show for free.

‘In a world where you can be anything, be kind’, perfectly describes actor, producer and philanthropist Lakshmi Manchu’s beautiful soul. A changemaker who loves to do it in style, Lakshmi Manchu kicked off 2024 with the 9th edition of Teach for Change’s Annual Fundraiser Fashion Show in Hyderabad.

A runway of change, where fashion meets philanthropy, Lakshmi undying support and dedication towards getting quality education for underprivileged children is not only heartwarming but also sends out a strong message that everything is achievable if you put your heart into it. And that’s what makes Teach for Change’s annual fundraiser fashion show special.

“Every year we just keep getting bigger, and stronger. Before, I didn’t have a vision, but now my vision is to go into every government school that I can lay my hands on and give students the necessary, quality education that all of them deserve,” expresses Lakshmi Manchu.

She further adds, “You know, the only reason I’m standing here in front of you is because I had a better opportunity to go to a good school. My dad didn’t have this opportunity, but he was able to provide it for me. And I see the gap between a private school and a government school, and I really want to bridge that gap so that all students can have quality education.”

And when you have a leader and force like Lakshmi, you ought to create a community that supports and loves you for what you do. A social cause close to her heart, Lakshmi had 35 celebrities walk at the fashion show in designs created by fashion designers Amit GT and Shashank Chelmilla. “They walked for free,”  expressed Lakshmi, as she thanked each one of them for supporting her and the initiative. “They have been here since the afternoon, getting their make-up and hair done in one room. It’s like a community coming together for a cause. It is beyond a feeling. I feel very supported and very loved right now,” adds Lakshmi.

Sashaying down the ramp, exuding royalty in an exquisite lehenga, Lakshmi Manchu opened Amit GT’s show looking like a goddess in gold. The ensemble was enhanced with intricate embroidery consisting of sequins and beads, highlighting the sparkling silhouette. The feather detailing on the shoulder and the dramatic drape celebrated Lakshmi’s charming personality with elan. She was also joined on the runway by her daughter, Nirvana.

The event also featured a diverse array of celebrities from various industries gracing the ramp, including Shruti Haasan, Shriya Saran, Harshvardhan Rane, Seerat Kapoor, Faria Abdullah, Avantika Mishra, Lekha Prajapati, Varshini Sounderajan, Reba John, Sandhya Raju, Alekhya Harika, Rashi Singh, Akshara Gowda, Meghna Mukherjee, Mehreen, Drishika Chander, Payal Radhakrishna, Akshitha Setty, Divi Vadthya, Surbhi Puranik, Sundeep Kishan, Ashok Galla, Parupalli Kashyap, Pradeep Machiraju, Nikhil, Sudheer Babu, Adith, Arvind Krishna, Shiva Kandukuri, Navdeep, Akhil Sarthak, Bharath Garlapati, and Priyatham Maanthini.
