The England Test skipper, Ben Stokes’ words during last year’s Ashes surfaced with the release of the new documentary series by the England Cricket Board where the captain has claimed that they “will live forever in the memory of people who were lucky enough to witness us play cricket”.
In the video doc-series titled, ‘Ashes 2023 | Our Take,’ the England captain, in a bid to reinvigorate his side gave a heartfelt speech following the fourth Test in Manchester which had ended in a rain-affected draw which then meant that Australia would retain the urn.

“Everything we’ve done up until now isn’t going to stop because we haven’t managed to win the urn back,” said Stokes, the face of England’s ‘Bazball’ brand of cricket, along with the coach, Brendon McCullum.
The players were not pleased after being unable to reclaim the historic urn, but Ben Stokes was not in the mood to let up considering that there was still one more game to go in the five-match affair.
“I know it’s going to be a bit flat, I know it’s going to hurt that we go into the next game (at The Oval) not being able to get the urn back,” he said.
Stokes further added, “But what we have done is something a lot bigger than any Ashes trophy could ever signify for this team – be the team that everybody will always remember.”

The rivalry is set to resume next year but there have been a lot of questions asked of this England side and whether they have the minerals to take on a top team in their home ground which is the ultimate goal for any Test-playing nation.
England were hammered in the five-match series against India in India where they lost out 4-1. They were able to get off to a great start with a convincing win in Hyderabad but failed to keep up the momentum in the following games.
Playing in Australia would be a similar test where the side led-by Pat Cummins would be a dominant force that not many sides have been able to overcome in the recent past barring India.
