'Turn to Take Drastic Measures': Pakistan Opener Requests PCB Chairman to Overhaul Team After T20 World Cup Exit

Out-of-favour batter Ahmad Shahzad has asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi to take ‘drastic measures’ for the team’s betterment. Pakistan had a poor showing at the T20 World Cup 2024, crashing out of the tournament in the group stage. Days after the exit, the Pakistan batter suggested that PCB’s chairman will have to revamp the team, going forward.

“Everything was based on facts and it was proved by Pakistan’s poor performance. Now it’s your turn to take drastic measures for the betterment of Pakistan cricket and you will be remembered as a hero for life.” Shahzad wrote on X.

Shahzad said that the decisions should be made based on merit to prevent players from going against the administration. “If you don’t take decisions on merit, then this current group of players will work against you like they have done against other cricket board chairmen in the past. They went against the previous chairmen and administration and they are also trying to bring us down but we will stand firm,” the Pakistan opener said.

He added that if the right decisions are taken, the PCB chairman will be remembered as the nation’s hero. “If you make the right decisions, this nation will always appreciate you and you will see positive results. We will make sure that they remember your efforts and we will not let them forget. This is your chance to become a champion forever,” Shahzad concluded.

The Pakistan batter’s post garnered support from the fans, with many agreeing with his words. One of them wrote, “That’s true Pakistan cricket needs a complete revamp! Without that, we aren’t going anywhere! Moshin Naqvi needs to take immediate action!”

Another said, “Yes could not agree more. It’s time for Mohsin Naqvi to take action and do something good for Pakistan Cricket.”

One added, “It’s true that Pakistan cricket needs a complete overhaul. Without it, we won’t progress. Mohsin Naqvi must take immediate action.”

“Totally agree with you. It’s time Mohsin Naqvi takes notice of the team’s poor performance,” wrote one more.

A recent change in the Pakistan Cricket Board resulted in Babar Azam’s return to the team’s captaincy. However, the decision has seemingly gone south with Pakistan losing their T20I series 0-2 in England before crashing out of the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies. The disappointing exit has created turmoil in Pakistan cricket, with many former cricketers calling for pragmatic steps.
