Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has opened up about comparisons with Virat Kohli. Both Smriti and Virat are celebrated as top players in their respective spheres, having earned numerous accolades. This success has led fans to draw comparisons between the two cricketing icons.
Addressing these comparisons during an episode of Sustainable Tea with Shreya, Smriti revealed she wasn’t a huge fan of such collations. “I don’t like comparisons. Don’t compare him with me just because I’m wearing a No.18 jersey,” she said.
Smriti Mandhana and Virat Kohli both play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on the club level. They have also consistently shown up for their national side, rescuing games for India on numerous occasions. Apart from their ‘similar’ careers, Smriti and Virat share the same winning attitude and style.
Smriti Mandhana had previously spoken about the comparisons with Kohli after leading the RCB women’s team to their maiden Women’s Premier League trophy.
Following the title victory, commentator Aakash Chopra asked Smriti if she was going to give a pep talk to the RCB men’s team as they were yet to win an IPL title.
Finding herself in a tricky position, Smriti Mandhana gave a rather safe answer and said that her triumph with the RCB was nothing compared to what Virat Kohli had achieved in cricket.

She said, “Virat Kohli has achieved a lot. He’s a legend of the game. He has won a World Cup and a Champions Trophy. I feel franchise cricket is a lot more about luck. Hope this cup (the WPL Trophy) has started the luck for RCB. You never know”.
Chopra’s question was in reference to the time when Virat Kohli had addressed Bengaluru’s women’s team in 2023, before the commencement of the inaugural season of WPL.
Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana is set to compete in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 next whereas Virat Kohli won’t feature until India’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh in September
