'MS Dhoni Yugpurush Hain': Former India Cricketer Waxes Eloquence About Cult of CSK Legend
It's being speculated that MS Dhoni will draw curtains on his legendary playing career with the conclusion of IPL 2024.

Plenty has been written and said about the legacy of MS Dhoni, one of the most revered figures in the history of Indian cricket. Having walked into collective consciousness through his brutal hitting and a flowing mane, Dhoni steadily cemented his status as one of the greatest captains to have played the game as he led Indian team to three ICC titles including the T20 World Cup, the ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy in the space of six years.

Dhoni replicated his international success in IPL too as he led Chennai Super Kings to five titles, the joint-most in the history of the T20 league.

The 42-year-old legend, in all likeliness, will bring an end his professional career with the IPL 2024 and a major hint was dropped when CSK thanked their fans on Sunday after what was their final home match of the league stage.

CSK defeated Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk by five wickets to further strengthen their claims of a playoffs hopes and then the players took a lap of the venue thanking the yellow army for their support throughout the campaign.

Dhoni used a racquet to hit tennis balls into the crowd, gifting a few lucky fans a souvenir for life.

Former India cricketer and a popular commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu waxed lyrical when describing the ‘cult’ of Dhoni.

Ye sakaratmak soch ki parikashtha hai, Himalaya parvat hai, yugpurush hai. Jub ye khel ko chodh kar jayenge, ek yug ka ant hoga. Ek yug sampan hoga. Kabhi kabhi koi maa kisi yugpurush ko janam deti hai aur wo cult ki tarah phailta hai. The legend grows. (He’s a perfect embodiment of positive thinking. A once in a generation star. When he bids goodbye to cricket, it will be the end of an era. His legend continues to grow.),” Sidhu said on Star Sports.

CSK will be praying that Sunday afternoon’s contest with RR isn’t the last time that Dhoni appears in their colours as a player this season. They are still in running for the playoffs and will hope to go all the way into the final which is slated to be held at Chepauk on May 26.
