Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ upcoming clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the chatter is still about MS Dhoni’s blistering innings which came in a losing cause in their previous game against the Delhi Capitals.
Still in awe of the breathtaking innings, former international cricketers, Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan were pleasantly surprised by the former India captain turning the clock back.
Speaking in the YouTube podcast Club Prairie Fire, Gilchrist who was also a legendary wicketkeeper-batter during his playing days appreciated Dhoni’s stance to keep away from too many media interactions. He said,” The thing about MS is that I think he is the absolute holy grail. Because he just doesn’t do interviews. Didn’t do press even when he was playing”.

Reflecting on CSK’s previous game against the DC, the match was the first loss for the side after winning 2 consecutive games to start off their season on a positive note. But all the talk was about the former skipper, Dhoni came out to bat for the first time in the season and rolled back the years with a blistering knock of 37 in 16 balls.
Gilchrist himself was pleasantly surprised by the performance. He commented,” What about the other day? No one was sure what he’s got left in the tank. Didn’t bat in the first couple of games and albeit in a losing cause, he sure did turn the clock back”.

Sharing a similar sentiment, Vaughan believes that there are very few players who can get the crowds to be happy with what they see when the team their team ends up on the losing side. He added,” There’s only one other sportsperson that his team could lose and get the media to talk about him. There’s a young fella called Rishabh Pant who’s made a remarkable comeback. To see him play the way he did and get the win but all the talk is about MSD’s 37 runs. That was also a home game for DC but the whole crowd was yellow”.

Pant himself has been in good form with the bat ever since making his comeback after a long spell of absence from the game due to the injuries he picked up after being involved in a car accident earlier in December 2022. The wicketkeeper batter has been able to rack up consecutive fifties with his latest coming in a losing cause against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
CSK will gear up for the second away game of the season as they take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad while DC will travel to Mumbai to take on the Mumbai Indians on April 7.
