IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad Break Multiple Records After Chasing Down 215 to Beat Punjab Kings by 4 Wickets
Sunrisers Hyderabad got a comfortable four-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) broke multiple records in their four-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on Sunday.

Chasing 215 for victory, Hyderabad, who are already among the top four teams to have made the playoffs, reached the target with five balls to spare at their home.

Opener Abhishek Sharma bossed Punjab Kings bowlers with yet another explosive half-century – a 28-ball 66. Opting to bat on a flat track, Punjab Kings posted an imposing 214/5 riding on Prabhsimran Singh’s 45-ball 71 and skipper Jitesh Sharma’s final over heroics. But SRH looked in complete control of the tall chase after losing Travis Head off the first ball and chased down the target.

The Pat Cummins-led SRH moved to 17 points from 14 matches and will need Rajasthan Royals (RR) to lose the second match of the day against toppers Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or a no-result in the game to stay in the top two.

It was also the sixth instance that 200 runs were scored by SRH, joining the likes of KKR (2024), Mumbai Indians (2023) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2024).

215 is now the joint-highest target chansed down by SRH as well as the joint-highest target in IPL matches at Hyderabad. Last year, SRH had also chased down 215 against RR in Jaipur. as RR had chased down 214 against the Deccan Chargers back in 2008.

215 is also the joint-second-highest total chased down against PBKS. MI had done the same at Mohali in 2023 as RR had chased down 224 at Sharjah in 2020.

It was also Punjab’s fourth defeat while defending a total in excess of 200, the same as KKR, with RCB and Chennai Super Kings having more with five.
