IPL 2024: 'I Just React to the Ball', Says RR Skipper Sanju Samson After Sensational Knock Against LSG in Opener
Samson was presented the Man of the Match award for an incredible unbeaten 82-run knock off just 52 deliveries and said that it is always great to spend time out there in the middle.

Rajasthan Royals got their IPL 2024 season off to a blistering start as they picked up a 20-run triumph over KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.

RR skipper Sanju Samson led by example as his unbeaten 82-run knock helped the hosts put up a total of 193 batting first. LSG fought well thanks to half-centuries from Rahul and Nicholas Pooran, however, the visitors ended up falling short of the target and Rajasthan picked up the two points on offer.

Samson was presented the Man of the Match award for his batting exploits and said that it was always great to spend time out there in the middle.

“It’s always great fun to spend time in the middle and it becomes more special when you win the game,” the brilliant batsman said.

“This time I have been in a different role, with a slightly different combination,” he continued.

Samson revealed that he has received some helpful input from Sri Lankan legend and RR head coach Kumar Sangakkara and has been trying to implement the council in his game.

“Sanga has given me suggestions and I have been playing IPL for ten years, so there’s experience coming in. I feel I need to spend more time and understand the conditions. Playing international ODIs also helped me,” the wicketkeeper-batsman said.

Samson played a plethora of spectacular shots, but one cut to the ropes off Mohsin Khan stood out for the batter’s poise, calm and timing.

“It’s all about understanding your strengths and weaknesses. I just react to the ball, no matter the first ball or the last ball, and that helps me maintain the shape,” he said.

“Everyone chipped in well. We just had to stick to our plans,” he concluded.

RR take on Delhi Capitals on the 28th of March at home, while LSG will look to turn their fortunes around when they host Punjab Kings on the 30th of the month.
