'Can't Wait For...New Role': MS Dhoni's Cryptic Post Ahead of IPL 2024 Sends Facebook Into Meltdown
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will return to action with the IPL 2024 on March 22 when Chennai Super Kings host Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season opener.

India legend MS Dhoni has left his fans wondering after a rare, cryptic post on social media. The former India captain, who retired from international cricket in 2020, continues to play in the Indian Premier League where he captains Chennai Super Kings.

On Monday, Dhoni posted on his official Facebook account, expressing his excitement for the ‘new season’ and ‘role’.

The IPL 2024 set to get underway on March 22 when defending champions CSK will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

“Can’t wait for the new season and the new ‘role’. Stay tuned!" read the post from Dhoni.

The post quickly went viral with dozens of fans sending their best wishes to Thala who will be aiming to guide CSK to a record-extending sixth IPL title this time around.

Dhoni played the entire season of IPL 2023 with an injured knee. Often he was seen hobbling and with his knee under a protective strap.

Once the season ended, he underwent surgery in Mumbai to address the concern.

It was widely reported that Dhoni is considering IPL retirement but he left the door open for a possible farewell season during a post-final chat with the broadcaster after CSK defeated Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, CSK’s title defense has suffered a setback with their star opener Devon Conway is set to spend around eight weeks as he’s scheduled to undergo an operation on his left thumb.

It effectively rules him out from the entire season.

Conway was bought by CSK for Rs 1 crore at the 2022 IPL players auction and he has since scored 924 runs from 23 matches at a strike-rate of 141.28.

At the IPL auction last December, the defending champions shored up their squad by buying as many as six players including Daryl Mitchell, Shardul Thakur, Rachin Ravindra and Mustafizur Rahman.
